Description
At one time stop signs were yellow like other traffic control signs instead of red the way they are now. When I was growing up there was a yellow stop sign at the end of the street. It wasn't quite as fancy as this one but it was a childhood memory. It was made of steel and when I visited the area years later it had turned into a lump of rust. This very nice old stop sign with cat eye reflectors has somehow survived the elements. I found it nailed to a tree on an easement while doing trail assessments after tropical storms Irene and Lee and had to get a photo despite the less than ideal light.

Yuppers!! Traffic Stop Signs were once yellow and they were actually pocelean on steel Actually according to American Pickers, these yellow stop signs are worth money This sign looks like it was originally paint and not porcelean, so it could be a later one say back in the 1940's or so. I believe the real yellow traffic stop signs were pre 1920's. I always loved those reflectors!! They are always so cool!!
